Castelo de Bode is a great place to go birdwatching because of its biodiversity. With hundreds of different species of plants, animals, birds, and reptiles living there, the blue lake and the magnificent green hills that line its shores play a significant part in the local ecosystem.
Among other species, the following can be found on the various trails near Blue Lake House.

Barn Owl (Tyto Alba)

This medium-sized owl has deep, dark eyes, and it is the only Tyto owl that can be found in most of its range. Variable all over the world, but always keep an eye out for a big round head, gorgeous gray-and-tawny wings, and white-and-black speckling on the upperparts. The facial disc and underparts can be either completely white or rusty orange in colour. It mainly hunts rodents in open spaces at night while foraging with a slow, buoyant flight. roosts during the day in old structures, tree hollows, caves, and nest boxes. It makes a spine-chilling, rising shriek as its call.

Red-Breasted Robin (Erithacus Rubecula)

The red-breasted robin (Erithacus rubecula) or simply robin, also known regionally as the red-breasted robin or purple robin, is a small bird that is easily recognised by the orange patch that adorns its breast. It is a bird with a melodious and persistent song. A robin's lifespan is just 13 months on average due to high mortality among robins in their first year. Once they've passed that barrier, they stand a much better chance of surviving for quite a while - the record currently stands at 19 years!

Blackbird (Turdus Merula)

The blackbird (Turdus merula), commonly known only as the blackbird or merle, is a bird belonging to the genus Turdus. Depending on latitude, it may be resident, migratory, or partially migratory. The male’s song is a fluty, melodic whistle. The song is sometimes heard after dark, as birds sing under artificial light. Calls are very loud and involve various clucking and rattling sounds.

Booted Eagle (Hieraaetus Pennatus)

The Booted Eagle (Hieraaetus pennatus) is a large bird of prey. It is about 47 cm long and has a wingspan of 120 cm. Like all eagles, it is classified in the Accipitridae family.

European Grey Heron (Ardea Cinerea)

The European grey heron (Ardea cinerea) is a European heron whose appearance is that of a bird with a grey back. It is also known as the royal heron.

White Wagtail (Motacilla Alba)

The white wagtail (Motacilla alba), known as the labandeira or lavandeira, is a small bird of the order Passeriformes and family Motacillidae, which also includes the genera Anthus and Macronyx.

Common House-Martin (Delichon Urbicum)

The White-rumped Swallow (Delichon urbicum) is a small migratory bird belonging to the swallow family (Hirundinidae), summering in Europe (except Iceland), North Africa, and temperate regions of Asia, and wintering in sub-Saharan Africa and tropical Asia.

Red-legged Partridge (Alectoris Rufa)

Distinct gamebirds of open heathland, grassy fields, and agriculture. seen primarily in pairs and small groups, frequently along field edges. The plumage is elaborate and attractive, with a red bill, a white throat, a black necklace, bold barred flanks, and a buffy belly. Other closely related species (like Chukar) lack the distinctive black-streaked necklace of the Red-legged frog but can still escape from collections or be introduced for hunting. Their native ranges do not overlap. A raspy, dry "wa-cha-cha-wa-cha-cha" or "wi'ch-ch'ch" is used in the song.

European Green Woodpecker (Picus Viridis)

A fairly large woodpecker that is primarily green and is widespread across much of its range. The black face, pale eyes, and red crown are noticeable (males have a red whisker mark). During slightly undulating flight, the yellowish rump is mostly visible. Juvenile lacks the contrasting face pattern and has extensive body bars and spots. inhabits open woodland, heathland, gardens, and farmland that are dotted with larger trees and hedges. It moves with an unusual, shuffling gait and feeds primarily on the ground, including garden lawns and anthills, unlike most woodpeckers. gives a loud, bright "kee-kee-kee-kee" and only drums occasionally.
